Scales attack on the underside, but infested plants can be told by the yellow blotches on the upper leaf surface and premature dropping of leaves.
Scale infests Chinese holly, dogwood, ferns, figs, Satsuma orange, tea plant, and yaupon. The male is soft, white, narrow, with a ridge down the middle. The female is dark brown. Length of a generation is 40 to 65 days; this makes for an overlapping of broods.
