The photo shows the larva and pupa in damaged peanuts.
Once a minor pest, the almond moth may become one of our major pests of stored nuts, grain, and seeds. The adult moths fly with a quick dart and vibration of wings. Females lay about 100 eggs which hatch in 4-8 days during the summer. As can be seen in the photo, the larva pupates in the nut but may pupate outside also. Normally about 80 days is required from egg to adult.
