A History in Pictures from USDA

This picture, taken in Ohio around 1922, shows one of the earliest efforts to apply insecticides with an airplane. A biplane is being used to dust catalpa groves attacked by the catalpa sphinx. It is flying around 80 miles an hour at an altitude of from 20 to 35 feet.
