NEW Recertification Training Requirement for Certified Pesticide Applicators in North Carolina

Effective Oct. 1, 2002, all NC Private Pesticide Applicators (essentially farmers who are certified to purchase and use restricted-use pesticides) will be required to obtain 2 hours of recertification credits every three years. This is in addition to the 2-hour class conducted by County Pesticide Coordinators that has been required for many years. Farmers can obtain the two "elective" hours by attending field days, workshops, and other training sessions that have been pre-approved for credits by the Pesticide Section of NCDA&CS. (NCDA&CS is approving meetings conducted in Sept 2002 for Private Applicators). This means that you can expect an increase in audience size for future Extension meetings! Click Here for a complete description of the rule change.

The approval system and record keeping will be essentially the same as what is done for Commercial Applicator Recertification now. Pre-approval Forms can be downloaded from the web site.

E-mail any questions to James Choate, Certification Specialist, NCDA&CS or telephone: 919-733-3556.
